Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Ignorance or neglect on a student's part is not an excuse to plagiarize. Any student caught plagiarizing will receive a failing grade and may be involuntarily withdrawn from the GreenFig program.
Ways to avoid plagiarism:
Paraphrase: If you find information that articulates your point exactly or are facts that support your point, make sure that you take the time to put it in your own words. “Borrowing” more than 3 words in a row from another form of text without quoting or citing the source IS plagiarism. This includes books, articles, journals, websites and any other written source.
Cite: One of the simplest ways to avoid plagiarizing is to cite. Citing entails adding the author(s), the date of the publication, and the source of the “borrowed” text.
Quote: When quoting a source, use the quoted words exactly the way they appear. Be sure to use quotation marks and cite the author’s last name, source, and page or paragraph number. Copying larger blocks of text, more than 30 or 40 words does not constitute an effective use of “Quoting”.
Cite Your Own Material: In the cases that you use your own words or material that you previously created or created for another purpose be sure to treat the same as you would from another author or creator. Using your own previously created material without citing can be considered self-plagiarism, and it is not acceptable.
Reference: The most effective way to avoid plagiarism is to reference the page or pages of work that you cited. Referenced material includes citing the author(s), date of publication, title and the source of publication.
Be Smart: Avoiding plagiarism requires that you use common sense. Do NOT copy and paste material, recycle work from others or yourself (even a piece of that work), and most importantly NEVER purchase or obtain a piece of work and submit it as your own.
